Cellars Tasting Room always gets a notice... "Hey, that's Julia Child!" visitors often note. The scene includes the famous chef alongside Burgess Cellars founder Tom Burgess, and was taken in the 1990's at a wine dinner they hosted in Boston.
When Tom purchased the 1870's era winery, located on Napa Valley's famous Howell Mountain in 1972, he established himself as a pioneer of mountainside wineries. At the time, there were only a handful of wineries in operation in the whole of Napa Valley and Tom saw the potential for mountain vineyards to produce wines that would evoke the French concept of "terroir", that grapes and wines should reflect the vineyard's soil, exposure, and overall micro-climate, creating wine that would delight even the most sophisticated palates.
Our host for the evening is Tom's son, Steve Burgess, who is now President & Vintner of Burgess Cellars. He was actually born during the winery's very first harvest. He is a living testimony to the rich history and storied past that has made the winery truly legendary among its peers. You are in for something special.
